EOTO jim crow era

The great migration occurred mainly during the Jim Crow era in the United states. Specifically, this occurred from around 1916 to 1970. This played a very big role in helping the lives and freedom of black Americans. This big shift included relocating millions of african americans from the south up to the north as well as other regions. This also brought a very significant political, economic and social change. I will be mainly talking about how this helped black people during the Jim Crow era.

One main way that the great migration helped black Americans during this era was that it provided many different economic opportunities for them. Specifically in cities such as detroit, chicago and new york, there were much better economic and job opportunities for african americans. Jobs in factories and other places were given to them and this provided them with much higher wages and better working conditions than what they had to endure while working in the south. This allowed many families to live a much better and fulfilled life.

Another way that the great migration helped black people during the Jim Crow era was that it helped a lot of them escape racial oppression. In the south during the Jim Crow era, racial discrimination and segregation was the norm, and it greatly restricted the opportunities and rights to black americans. The great migration gave these people a way to escape this terrible and unfair environment. This also let black people seek better lives up in the north. This was helpful because in the north the Jim Crow laws were a lot less severe and enforced.

More ways that this benefited black people during this time was that it helped them with their education and allowed them to have a much higher quality of education. In the north, black communities had much better access to education, specifically for children. They had much more funded and supported schools with much less racism which allowed black students to receive a much better education.  This was a very crucial and significant step in improving their lives and breaking the treacherous cycle of poverty and inequality to them. This also allowed political engagement which benefited them in countless ways. There was a very significant increase in the population of black Americans in urban areas. In the north, black people were allowed to advocate for people's civil rights which greatly contributed to the abolishment of jim crow laws and stepping up the civil rights movement.

This also allowed black communities from different regions to exchange their different artistic expressions and cultural differences which led to the Harlem renaissance. The Harlem renaissance as a cultural and artistic movement that celebrated black creativity and identity. This also led to the integration of labor unions. Black workers in industrial cities played a very large and significant role in breaking down racial barriers. As more black people joined labor activism and were involved in unions, the more people pushed for more equal and fair treatment which got rid of a lot of discrimination in the workplace.

In conclusion, the great migration during the time of the Jim Crow era was a very big changing period for black Americans. It finally gave the opportunity for them to escape the racist and unfair scene in the south and get access to better opportunities overall. It even helped them greatly participate in the fight for civil rights. Not only did this improve the people who participated in their lives, it also contributed to the struggle for racial inequality in America. Even though there were still great challenges when it came to racial inequality during this time, this was a very big step in making it better and helping African Americans.
