Town hall reaction

 This town hall that we did in class brought together a very diverse crowd with people who represented both stances on pro and anti slavery. I will be talking about the anti slavery side in this post. The Gettysburg address was composed by abraham lincoln. Slaveholders tried to validate their ownership of slaves by integrating them to their religious beliefs and rituals.


The grimke sisters had a very big influence on anti slavery since a very young age.


John brown had to face a death sentence because of his involvement with 21 comrades in an assault on a military facility, trying to keep weapons to confront slave owners. 


Uncle tom's cabin portrayed the horrors of slavery within its narrative and the release of the liberator article ignited controversy among the public, the democratic party was then divided very significantly over the issue of slavery.

  In class, we watched a movie called "Driving Miss Daisy.” this film was directed by Bruce Beresford in 1989,and it is a very compelling story that takes place in over a quarter-century. It follows the life of Southern matriarch Daisy Werthan, her son Boolie, and her chauffeur named Hoke Colburn. At first, Daisy strongly  guards her independence, exhibiting passive aggressiveness and rudeness toward her African American chauffeur hoke.   The 1960s in America was a time of significant change marked by progress in the civil rights movement, but it also was a time with racial tensions that turned  into massive riots after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. town hall meeting - Jefferson Davis reasoning for pro slavery

My name is Jefferson Davis, and my politics consisted of many important roles and responsibilities. I served as the first and only President of the Confederate States of America from 1861 to 1865. This was a position that brought me into the middle of one of the most controversial time  periods in all of  American history. Before  the American Civil War, I represented Mississippi in the United States Senate and the House of Representatives. As well as, I held the very big role of  the United States Secretary of War from 1853 to 1857,  which contributed to the nation's administration and defense.
