gone with the wind reflection
I have heard a lot about the movie “Gone with the wind” so i was very happy to be able to watch it in this class. Throughout this film, you can see that it is a movie that greatly involves a very diverse cast of characters, and it shows the different relationships that there are in between a lot of them.
The biggest thing portrayed is the dynamic between the african american workers and the children and people that they worked for. Specifically, Scarlett deals with the African American worker that she grew up with leaving her because he needed to serve their state in the war. She was heartbroken having to watch him leave. This film portrays the backdrop of the southern way of life and the war at the time. It also shows great friendships and relationships and how they can evolve.
Specifically, Scarlett's journey with herself is very significant in this movie and can help teach us a lot about the plot. She is shown as a very entitled and spoiled young woman and she is convinced that Ashley Wilkes would always choose her over her cousin Melanie hamilton. But her efforts to win over ashleys love and respect lead her to marry Melanie's brother named Charles just to make Ashley jealous. Unfortunately, Charles is broken down after the war starts, making Scarlett a widow.
While Scarlett is mourning her relationship, she meets Rhett during a charity event and they dance together which wasn't a very smart move for a woman grieving her relationship. This relationship begins to progress and get more serious and their bond gets deeper and deeper.
A very significant point in the movie is scarletts transformation within herself. She changes from a very self centered and unlikable character into a very determined and hardworking individual. She leaves her family to be able to help wounded soldiers. Her changing from a frail and sensitive character into a strong and motivated person exemplifies the film's depth. The biggest change in her character is shown when she successfully helps all of the injured soldiers and discovers that the person that she had missed the most, died during her absence.
